“Age is an issue of mind over matter, if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter”, said Mark Twain. Senior citizens wanting to travel abroad should take heart from this. All you need is a few good hacks to keep you going. Take a look.

  1. Plan well – While being impulsive is good at times, for traveling abroad, kindly plan well in advance. Choose the place and duration along with the right time of the year. Take help from family, friends or a good travel consultant if required. Getting your planning right is a big part of ensuring a good trip. Read more on visa tips for international travel.
  2. Choose the right flight – Make sure you that you pick the best possible flight to your destination. Many Airlines offer discounts for senior citizens, so check it out. Also, find non-stop flights to the destination, if available. If you are not sure about changeovers, choose the disability option which allows you the use of a companion with a wheelchair.
  3. Medicines, medical records – If you are suffering from any disease, even a mild one, make sure to carry all the medicines and prescriptions. Take regular medicines without fail. Just to be safe, carry all medical records with you, if any. You never know when things can go wrong, so precautions help.
  4. Keep it simple – While being enthusiastic about a foreign trip is good, trying to do too much beyond what the body permits is also not good. Try to space the trip in such a way that you get to see, enjoy and revel in the experience. Ensure that you get proper rest in between to recoup and carry on.
  5. Get company – If possible, try to get some company for the travel. If any family member can accompany, then nothing like it. At times, you can also find like minded friends or opt for a group tour like Samarth Tours etc. This provides a safety net. This checklist will make it easier for you to plan.
  6. Emergency contacts – Always carry emergency contact numbers and relevant ID cards with you. This can help, just in case. Keep updating your family about your whereabouts to the extent possible.
