Various Ways To Have a Home Smelling Good

We Indians are not new to ways of making our home smell good. Most Indian homes use incense sticks, scented candles or flowers as part of their daily routine. Also, the Indian style of cooking with many different spices also surrounds the home with a pleasant odor. Many times, we find someone walking into the house and saying with a smile, “something nice seems to be cooking.”

However, it is also true that we live in a world, where there is a high amount of air pollution. Outside air can bring in bad odours or even at times, specific ingredients in our daily cooking can spoil the fragrance in the house. Hence, it is always better to have some ways to keep our homes smelling good. This is especially needed in the kitchens and the bathrooms, where the chances of lousy odour are more. So, here are a few ways in which you can keep your home smelling good and beautiful, giving it a welcoming feeling.

Air fresheners

There are a good amount of air fresheners available in the market nowadays in various forms. They come as sprays, gels, air wicks, etc. Also, there are many perfume choices available in these, for all uses, including the bathrooms. While these are best suited and convenient, there could be a possibility that a few people, especially asthmatic ones, may not be so tolerant to these. Hence, it is best to try out something once and see if it works out for you. These are easy to use and replace as well.

Incense sticks

Incense sticks are another excellent option that can be tried out to keep your home smelling good. These are also nowadays available in many different forms and aromas suited to your taste. A bunch of them lighted up in the morning could keep your home smelling good till noon or so. The fragrance fills the air all around. However, even with incense sticks, there could be the issue of irritability for a few people who have respiratory problems. Incense sticks will also have a bit of fume coming out along with the fragrance. This may not be suitable for a few people.

Scented Candles

One safe way of avoiding the irritation and the fumes may be to try out with some scented candles. There are synthetic ones in these that should be avoided as they have chemicals mixed in it. It is best to go for some natural beeswax candles with some pleasing aromas. When lighted up, they will fill the air and give out a pleasant feeling. The natural ones actually contain essential oils in them and hence come in many different aromas that can be tried and tested. Just ensure that the candles are lit and kept in safe places where there is no chance of them toppling over etc. to avoid any fire accidents.

Essential oils

If nothing, you can use different essential oils like lavender, rose, sandalwood, citrus, eucalyptus, camphor, etc. These can be used with diffusers that work like a spray to get an aromatic, therapeutic kind of environment in your house. It soothes the spirits and the mind. You may even just dip small cotton balls with the essential oil and leave it around in a few places to get the same effect. These are natural odors and hence, will not be having any side effects or irritability as such.

Flowers

Use some natural flowers that have a lovely smell to get a good feel around the house. These will have a visual appeal as well as a good aromatic effect. Just put them in a vase and place them in the living room and even in your kitchen. It lifts the mood as well as you get that mild natural fragrance.

Odour removers

The other option is to use odour removers that can take away the bad smell. Little open boxes of baking soda around the house or natural rock salt also can absorb the bad odors in the house. Even a small bowl of white vinegar can have the same effect. You could also try baking or use herbs regularly in your cooking to keep the bad odors out.
