A lady who is fierce, independent, and lived her life fully. She nurtured her kids, raised them well, supported her family and was standing like a tough soldier to protect them. And when the kids grew older, they went to different countries to fulfill their dreams and aspirations.
She was now getting on, almost 83 years with a hint of dementia and staying independently in Bangalore. She had help at home and handled them with an iron grip, but was getting more dependent on them every day. The children had started worrying about her the whole time.
It was at this point that the children heard about Samarth and decided to connect. They warned that the kind of independent woman their mother was, she would not be acceptable to the idea of external help. The team assured them with their understanding of the situation and convinced them to try out their method.
Samarth appointed Padma, who stayed close by and herself a lady of several accomplishments as the care-counsellor for her. Mrs. Kumar though did not want anyone. She was always civil and polite and had the care-counsellor in awe of her from the first meeting. She was well read with a long list of accomplishments and maintained an impeccable house. She however never allowed the care-counsellor to help.
Padma noticed her interest and ability in Ikebana. She approached the principal of a school nearby, with a suggestion to meet Mrs. Kumar for a potential workshop on flower arrangements for the students. The principal agreed to meet up. Mrs. Kumar, for the first time, got excited about meeting Padma and prepared for the meeting.
The meeting went well, and an introductory class was scheduled. Padma landed up in the morning of the appointed day to take Mrs. Kumar to the school. However, dementia raised its head. Mrs. Kumar had completely forgotten about the class. The principal was sympathetic but agreed to reschedule. This time Padma made sure that Mrs. Kumar was reminded the day before and again in the morning.
She has started her initiative and coordinating with the school for designing curriculum for them for Environment studies, Creative art. She will also be teaching them about Bonsai and Ikebana. Her bond got stronger, and she found a new family where she instilled values, nurtured all the kids and created the ecosystem of love, care, and systematic thinking. She started living again in those small- small moments, and that’s what mattered to her. She says, sometimes we all need a good listener, a friend who is always there to support us.
For her Padma and Samarth is that friend who helped her in self-reflection and in boosting her confidence. Today she is spreading sunshine wherever she goes. For her children, Samarth is now around her mother; they are assured that she is happy and are at peace that she has a part of them a daughter near her in Padma.
Somebody rightly said that sometimes we need just a few seconds of astonishing bravery and faith to reach our goal. And there she was moving ahead by pushing aside all the barrier with the sense of pride and victory.
