Movies releasing on Diwali are a tradition in India, and most of the cinemas being closed, or people being afraid to step out isn’t changing that! A lot of movies and web series are going to be released starting this Diwali week. So, there is no dearth for entertainment. With all this content being released on OTT, you could easily choose to plan to watch these as per your convenience and even make it a family affair. Here is what you get to choose from.
This long-awaited Akshay Kumar starter, which is a remake of the Tamil film Kanchana is being released on Disney+Hotstar on 9th November 2020. It is a movie about the horror-comedy genre and said to be a roaring entertainer. The plot moves around a woman who was wronged and her ghost seeks vengeance by haunting the inmates of the house.
With an intriguing name like Mum Bhai, this crime action thriller is a Zee5 original release set for 12th November. It is set in the Mumbai of the late 1980s and stars Angad Bedi, Sandeep Dhar, Sikander Kher, and Sunny Hinduja. The movie touches upon the underworld and the rise of a maverick cop, Bhaskar Shetty rises to deal with the situation.
Dark 7 White
If you like political thrillers, then perhaps the Zee5 originals Dark 7 White scheduled to be released on 24th November, is what you should mark your calendar for. It’s a thrilling series that is said to be about the death of a CM in an accident and the intriguing things that the investigation reveals thereafter. The cast includes Sumeet Vyas, Nidhi Singh, Jatin Sarna, and Monica Chaudhary.
Raat Baaki Hai
This is said to be a promising suspense thriller from Zee5 starring Paoli Dam, Anup Soni, and Rahul Dev. The story revolves around two lovers who got separated who happened to meet each other after 12 years in strange circumstances. To know what’s in store here, you could tune in to watch this web series on 20th November on Zee5.
For fans of Anurag Basu, he has rustled up a dark comedy in Ludo, releasing on 12th November on Netflix. It boasts of an interesting ensemble cast consisting of Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rohit Suresh Saraf, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Pearle Money, and Inayat Verma. It is mainly about the lives of four people in a metro getting intersected.
Coming from the director of the recent Scam 1992 fame, Hansal Mehta, Chhalaang, releasing on 13th November seems to be a promising fare. Rajkummar Rao and Nushrat Bharucha are the main actors, wherein Rajkummar plays a PT teacher who is attracted to the computer teacher and has to ward off competition while vying her. The movie is being released on Amazon Prime.
Based on a true story, Welcome Home being released on Sony LIV is an intriguing movie about two women who end up being captive in a home in the middle of nowhere. The story takes us through their lives and how they both are unhappy about their mothers, not taking a stand against abuse from the men in their lives. They both are government teachers on a census duty and the story moves tells us what happens when they ring a doorbell to find a woman who reveals shocking details about her life. The cast is made up of Kashmira Irani, Swarda Thigale, Boloram Das, Shashi Bhushan, and Tina Bhatia. This is already airing since 6th November and is touted as a great psychological thriller that is bound to keep you hooked.
If you love watching South Indian movies, you are in for a treat with a few releases lined up for Diwali in Tamil and Telugu as well. Ka Pae Ranasingam, a political drama in Tamil is now available on Zee5 since 6th November. Starring Vijay Sethupathi and Aishwarya Rajesh, the movie is about a man working in Dubai and is again based on a true story about how he passes away there and the family tries to get his body home. And yet, we are taken through an intriguing story of their past and how even the PM had to intervene to get his body home, and then there is an unexpected twist as well. The Tamil version has been dubbed into Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi also.
Miss India is a Telugu movie starring national award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh along with Rajendra Prasad and Jagapathi Babu. It was released on Netflix on 4th November and is available in Tamil as well as Malayalam. The story revolves around Manasa Samyuktha, from a middle-class family and her entrepreneurial dreams. Middle-Class Melodies is another Telugu movie to be released on Amazon Prime on 20th November, starring Anand Devarakonda and Varsha Bollamma.
