After the scorching summer and the fury of the monsoon, the onset of winter comes next. However, before the full winter hits many parts of India during the November to December timeframe, September and October happen to be the best time to visit many places in India. The climate will be pleasant and kind and also it is the onset of the festive season as well with Ganesh Chaturthi is coming up in September, Navrathri in October, Diwali in November and Christmas in December. So, you can also fine-tune your travel plans as per these festivals to get the best out of the climate as well as the festivals.

Mumbai

Mumbai has a coastal climate and is usually humid throughout the year. The summers are terrible, and the monsoons even more with waterlogged roads. Hence, if you have not yet made a trip to the maximum city, perhaps September happens to the best time. Nowhere in India is Ganesh Chaturthi celebrated with as much enthusiasm and as much fun and devotion as in Mumbai. People young and old, poor and rich, welcome the God who is said to be the remover of obstacles. If you plan for a few days, you can also visit a few beaches, the Gateway of India, the iconic Taj, the marine drive or even visit the nearby Elephanta caves or beautiful Lonavala. You may even visit a Bollywood studio to get a filmy feel if you are a Bollywood fan.

Mysore

Dusshera is celebrated in all its glory with a traditional touch of the royal past in Mysore, and it is world famous for this as much as it is for the Mysore Silk. The whole of Mysore city is decked up and illuminated for Mysore, and they welcome tourists from the world over. The celebrations are held in honor of Goddess Chamundeshwari, who killed the evil demon Mahishasura. The happiness and grandeur that is seen during the ten-day festival here in Mysore in unmatched and put you in a good festive mood. The “King” holds a royal Durbar (Court Meeting) in the Mysore Palace, which is a truly majestic piece of architecture that transports you back to the days of the erstwhile Mysore kings. The fully illuminated palace at night is a real feast to watch. Also, the icing on the cake is the Dusshera procession taken out on the Vijayadashami day with the goddess Chamundeshwari taken through the city on an elephant, on a golden Mantap. Hence, this time would be ideal to visit Mysore.

Himachal Pradesh

If you love to be away in the mountains, with lots of greenery, and natural beauty around, then this is the best time to visit Himachal. This time, the cold is bearable, and there won’t be snow. Usually, the snowfall in this Himalayan region comes in only in December or so. Shimla, Kullu, Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Kangra, Kasauli, etc., are all beautiful hilly valleys with a lot of natural beauty, hills, cool climate and a kind of peaceful environment that helps to de-stress. Also, if you seek spirituality, then you may choose Dharamshala, as it happens to also have a touch of the Tibetan culture with some temples as well. All these places are equally magical for a perfect getaway during the September to October timeframe.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

This happens to be one of the best times to visit Andaman and Nicobar Islands, situated in the Indian Ocean, away from the mainland of India. These are reached via air or water as there are enough ships or flights, throughout the year. This is one place where you can enjoy the sun-soaked beautiful, clean beaches, the blue water, watch the underwater aquatic life while doing snorkeling, etc. You could also get to see the infamous Kaalapaani or cellular jail, where many Indian freedom fighters were kept by the British. Out here, Havelock islands and Port Blair have lots of tourist attractions to keep you engaged.
