With the weekend approaching, perhaps it is time to check out the latest movies that are now showing in the theatres. Whether you are a Thalaiva fan, a period movie buff, or would like to catch a real-life sheroes movie, you are in for a treat this weekend. Some of the movies available in theatres near you are Darbaar, Tanhaji, Chaapaak, Mardaani 2, etc. And in case you would like to have an outing with your grandkids, then you could also check out Jumanji – the Next Level, and Frozen 2. There are, of course a few more choices as well Bombshell, Knives Out, Sab Kushal Mangal, and Good Newz. Here is a rundown on the latest ones for you to decide.
Perhaps, it is not untrue if we say that a Rajnikanth movie release is more of a festival rather than just another movie release. Darbaar is the latest one from the Thalaivaa, to ring in the New Year, and as per the ones who have already watched, it is a treat. Most fans watch a Rajni movie expecting comedy, action, the thrill of stunts, music, and dance. As per initial reports, Darbaar promises all this and more.
Rajni plays the protagonist Aadhithya Arunachalam, with Bollywood’s famous action hero Suniel Shetty as the antagonist, Hariharan Chopra. Besides, Prateik Babbar also plays a part as Ajay Chopra, and Dalip Tahil also forms part of the crew. Nayanthara and Nivetha Thomas bring up the female cast as Lily and Valli. In order not to spoil the fun, we just tell you that the Thalaivaa plays a cop trying to solve a group of murders.
If you are a historical movie buff, and an Ajay Devgn fan, then perhaps, you definitely should catch Tanhaji. The Indian history is filled with stories of unsung heroes, and Tanhaji Malusare is one such story. This is the brave Maratha warrior who helped the Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj to capture back the Kondhana fort from the Mughal emperor Aurangazeb. The battle that took place for this known as the Battle of Sinhagad is what stopped the Mughals from capturing South India.
Action hero Ajay Devgn plays the protagonist in this story, while the talented Saif Ali Khan plays the character of Uday Bhan, the Rajput commander of the emperor. The real-life better half of Ajay Devgan plays reel life wife as well in this movie by donning the character of Savitribai Malusare. While Sharad Kelkar dons the role of Shivaji Maharaj, Luke Kenny plays Aurangazeb.
Deepika Padukone and the movie Chaapaak is trending on all social and new media channels because of Deepika’s visit to the violence-hit JNU campus. The movie is a real-life story of an acid attack victim, called Laxmi Agarwal. The story shows how she was attacked for rejecting the advances of a guy called Naeem Khan. His friends threw acid on her, and from the depths of desperation, she rebuilt her life and is a campaigner for the rights of acid attack victims. She is also a TV host now. She has also petitioned the courts to regulate the sale of acid so that it is not so easily available for perpetrators. Deepika plays the role of the Malti as the acid attack victim.
If you are a Rani Mukherjee fan or would love to take a peek at another Sheroes kind of movie, then you can watch Mardaani 2. In this movie, Rani Mukherjee essays the role of a female SP, Shivani Shivaji Roy, who goes after a rapist. The movie is based on real-life incidents, as we keep hearing about rape cases every single day. The movie was released in December and is running in theatres till now. This is a sequel to the Mardaani 1, in which she had gone after women trafficking gang.
