For the past few years, Indians have their exclusive form of summer entertainment, called Indian Premier League (IPL). Since the time that it was kicked off in 2008, IPL has caught on in India, with the young and old alike. For one, IPL happens as the summer holidays start in the April/May season. So, all the kids would have finished their exams and enjoying their holidays, and can also stay up late to watch the matches. For another, cricket, as we all know, is a religion in India, that transcends all ages, religions, regions etc. and unites people. So, there are many ways of enjoying these cricket games, either with family at home, at restaurants where they have these screenings, or as an outing to the stadium itself.
Why a stadium outing?
If you are put up in any of the cities where the matches are being played like Mumbai, Jaipur, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkatta etc., then you can use this as an excuse for a summer holiday treat for your grandkids. The tickets can be booked online. Once, you go to the stadium, then you can happily enjoy the whole atmosphere and just go with the flow. You can feel the thrill and the fun of all that happens out there.
So, for one, the game is happening, and you get to see your cricketing heroes in person. For all you know, you just might be able to get an autograph for your grandkids as well, just imagine their glee. That would be a prized gift indeed! For another, there is so much of shouting, cheering, noise, flag waving, the cheer girls, the DJs belting out favourite numbers as well as call outs for your team etc. All these put you in a good mood and you enjoy the same.
The other aspect is the celebrities who attend these matches, they either own the teams or come to just watch. This just adds to the glitz and glamour of the occasion. Just imagine, with so many sixes being hit, there is always a possibility that the next six lands where you are sitting, putting the kids on cloud nine. Also, the TV cameras will be continuously panning the crowds, and there is every chance that you get seen on TV and you can inform people back home to keep a watch and wave out to them or hold up interesting placards.
Most IPL matches happen in home cities, so when you get into the stadium, you will be given flags and other such stuff that you can keep as souvenirs. There is also merchandise that you can purchase T-Shirts or caps, or you can get yourself painted on the face in the colours of your favourite team. A stadium selfie with all this glory can really add to your album collection, making it a prized memory.
What to look out?
Please note that there is ample security at the stadium and they generally do not allow you to carry any food items inside, including at times, even drinking water. You can purchase eatables and water inside, but if you need your own water, you may request the security personnel and they may allow. Be careful about the seats as well as the steps and teeming crowds. The seats sometimes may be the folding ones that fold up which you get up to cheer and you may sit back in the excitement, without watching and take a fall. Keep an eye out when you make your way out after the match or take restroom breaks. Make it a safe outing with lots of fun and get back home safe and sound.
