Summer holidays have started and so it is like the holiday season has come in officially. As the temperatures in cities start soaring, people tend to look for cooler places, to visit for a respite. The other option that can be considered, of course, is a beach vacation. For most people who have not grown up in coastal areas, beach vacations hold a special temptation. The ability to just dip your feet in the water or just plunge yourself into the waves on the beach or even just sitting on the shores to take in the sunrise or sunset is a great feeling.
If one has plans to go abroad, then the choices in beaches are places like the Maldives, Bali (Indonesia), Thailand, and Sri Lanka or if you have a slightly higher budget, even a few of the European countries. If, however, you are looking to take a vacation within India, then you have some wonderful places as our country is dotted with beaches on both the sides. On the Malabar and Konkan coast, you have Kanyakumari, Kovalam, Mangalore, Karwar, Mumbai, Goa, and Gokarna etc. while on the Coromandel coast you have places like Chennai, Mahabalipuram, Puri, Pondicherry, Kolkatta etc. You may even consider a trip to the Lakshadweep, Andamans and Nicobar which is also dotted with beaches.
Usually, the coastal climates suit most people, of all ages. It is bound to be hot and humid and hence, light cotton clothes should be carried in good quantities. There is a possibility of sweating and hence, you have to shower and change often. Make sure to carry one or two caps or hats as well as a pair of sunglasses. Use sunscreen on all exposed parts of your body to avoid being sunburnt or picking up a tan. Summer is also the time when many diseases go round due to the contaminated water. Hence, while it is important to keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of water, fruit juices or any kinds of liquids, care should be taken to avoid adulterated stuff.
You get tender coconuts in most coastal towns, and these are safe. Apart from this, only good quality sealed water bottles and canned juices should be taken. Carry some generic medicines for fever, cold, cough and painkillers etc., just in case. If you do not like water, then it is better to keep away from any adventure sports like skiing, surfing, snorkelling etc. which may be found on a few beaches. Also, if you have any medical condition that forbids you doing such stuff, then please avoid the same.
Enjoy The Waters
You may choose to carry books or e-readers if you just want to lie back in the shade on the beach and read. Otherwise, you can just take long walks on the sand from one end of the beach to the other and pick up a few shells along the way. You could even build castles and click selfies with it. There are also options to play sports like volleyball or football if you are travelling as a group or a family. If you are an artist, you could actually choose to sit in one place and start sketching. There are lots of things that happen around you on a beach and you can capture all of that.
Sometimes, all you need to do is, just stand with your feet in the water, as the waves lap by. This is a very good relaxing therapy for mind and body both. Explore the local areas and enjoy the local cuisine, especially the seafood, if you are a fan of it. There are also usually fishing villages or local shopping places that are found that can be explored. So, you see, whether you love water or nor, beach vacations have a lot to offer to people of all ages. Just choose what you want to do.
